Quick and Easy DIY Room Fresheners to Give Your Apartment a Fresh Scent!

A fresh smell can make just about any home feel warm and inviting. Store-bought air fresheners are often full of chemicals and other less-than-desirable ingredients that can trigger asthma, allergy symptoms, or otherwise wreak havoc on your health. Fortunately, it’s simple and affordable to make your own DIY room fresheners! Most people don’t know that they have everything they need to make a naturally scented DIY room freshener right in their kitchen cupboards.

Depending on the type of scent you want, you can incorporate easy-to-find fruits, such as lemons and oranges, with extracts, spices, and herbs. Simply prepare the recipe and place it in a pot to simmer on the stove. Keep the temperature as low as possible, and always be sure to keep water in the pot so that the ingredients won’t burn. Uplifting Orange – Combine peel scraps from two oranges, a sliced piece of fresh ginger that’s about four inches long, and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract in two cups of water. Use one teaspoon of ground ginger if you don’t have fresh ginger handy.

Spicy Citrus – Add one sliced orange, two sticks of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice to two cups of water. Substitute whole cloves or allspice if you have them in your cupboards.

Summer Scents – Slice two lemons and combine them with three sprigs of fresh rosemary and one teaspoon of vanilla extract in two cups of water. You can also add 1/2 teaspoon mint extract to this recipe for a whole new scent.
