Five Quick Cleaning Tricks

Clean House ImageKeeping a home clean and organized can feel like a full-time job sometimes. Between the vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, and everything else that it takes to keep your home spotless, it’s no easy chore. If you’ve got company coming over and need to get your space clean but don’t have time for an all-day cleanup, try these five quick cleaning tricks:

1) Get rid of clutter first
When it comes to quick cleaning tricks, the number one thing you can do to make your home look better is get rid of extra clutter. Look at the kitchen counter, the dining room table, the stairs, and any other places that inevitably accumulate all those odds ‘n’ ends. If you’re having company over soon, stash all that stuff away in a spot they won’t see until afterwards. And if you have some time, make it a priority to sift through that old mail pile, recycle that stack of magazines, and donate those toys your kids don’t use anymore. Your home will instantly look cleaner and more organized!

2) Clean surfaces from the top down
You’ll get the best results if you start wiping off and dusting higher surfaces and work your way down. Even if you’re expecting guests at your doorstep in a few minutes, quickly wipe off the coffee table, side table, or dining room table where guests may be congregating. Don’t forget about the kitchen, too!

3) Wipe off bathroom surfaces
If you’re having guests over, it’s almost guaranteed that someone in the group will be paying a visit to your bathroom. Spend five minutes wiping out the sink, cleaning the mirror and toilet, and quickly picking up any stray hairs on the floor.

4) Take care of the floors
Even if you can’t get to the bedrooms or other floors of the home, you should make sure the floors in the main area of your home get cleaned. Don’t worry about mopping if you’re short on time. Simply sweep them and spot clean if there are any particularly dirty areas. Likewise, when it comes to vacuuming, focus on heavy traffic areas to pick up any obvious dirt and debris.

5) Beautify with some finishing touches
After you’ve followed these quick cleaning tricks, finish things off by adding those couple of extra touches that pull a room together. Try fluffing the pillows on the couch, lighting a candle to freshen up the air, or setting out a bowl of fruit as a centerpiece in the kitchen.
